The
Annual Telephone Campaign
Updated February 2006
In 2004, Brunel University launched its first ever telephone fundraising campaign. A team of 30 students, ranging from first year undergraduates to final year PhD students, were given the task of telephoning 1,500 graduates of Brunel and its constituent colleges to ask for their support for scholarships.
Now, two years later we have £70,000 pledged by alumni to help current students in times of hardship. Our Scholarship Funds have been established to help talented people achieve their full potential and to open doors for those who, for social and economic reasons might not otherwise have the opportunity to pursue higher education.

Student caller jobs are some of the most popular on campus. The students are always nervous before they started calling, but always enjoy the campaign experience. It has even helped some students reconsider future careers and plans thanks to speaking to our alumni!
Student Marina Theodotou said:
“Working on the campaign has been so much more enjoyable than I thought it would be! I have spoken to so many interesting people. The team of callers have all been brilliant to work with and it has been a really enjoyable atmosphere”.

Fundraising was not the only purpose of the telephone call, as student caller David Simpson discussed:
“The alumni were happy to speak about education and their time at Brunel. Almost every person wanted to give something back to Brunel from careers advice to placements for students and, of course, donations!”
The 2006 telephone campaign will take place in the autumn. We are going to aim high and hope to push our overall scholarships goal over the £1 million mark. The more people we can involve, the nearer we are to reaching our target.
